A system and method to allow scalability of file storage (300) in terms of capacity and performance through a symmetric multicomputer architecture with shared storage, in which storage and protocol processing resources can be added to (or removed from) the system without any need of recognizing and/or explicitly migrating the data stored in the system. The invention permits clients (302, 304, 306, 308) to access files stored (i.e., written) in any of multiple external protocol processing nodes to be retrieved from any other external protocol processing node. The access can be routed through any of the gateway service nodes (312a, 312b, 312c).
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant l'extensibilité d'une mémoire fichier (300) en termes de capacité et de performance et utilisant une architecture multiordinateur symétrique à mémoire partagée. De la mémoire et des ressources de traitement de protocole peuvent être ajoutées (ou supprimées) dans le système sans qu'il soit nécessaire de reconnaître et/ou de migrer explicitement les données stockées dans le système. L'invention permet aux clients (302, 304, 306, 308) d'accéder à des fichiers stockés (c'est-à-dire écrits) dans un noeud quelconque d'une pluralité de noeuds de traitement de protocole externes en vue d'une récupération à partir de n'importe quel autre noeud de traitement de protocole externe. L'accès peut être routé par l'intermédiaire de l'un quelconque des noeuds de service de passerelle (312a, 312b, 312c).
