Novel antimicrobial compositions and strategy to combat bacterial resistance in a variety of bacterial strains are disclosed. The antimicrobial compositions comprise a combination of mitomycin C, or other reductively activated compounds, and ABPI and/or imino-ABPI. The unique strategy involves exposing microorganisms to a first antimicrobial agent, such as mitomycin C, which can induce the expression of at least one protein which confers resistance to mitomycin C, i.e., inactivates mitomycin C. Simultaneously or soon thereafter, the microorganisms are exposed to a second antimicrobial agent, such as ABPI and/or imino-APBI, which is activated by the same protein which inactivates the first antimicrobial agent.
L'invention concerne de nouvelles compositions antimicrobiennes ainsi qu'une méthode destinée à combattre la résistance bactérienne dans différentes souches bactériennes. Ces compositions antimicrobiennes renferment une combinaison de mitomycine C, ou d'autres composés activés par réduction, et d'ABPI et/ou d'imino-ABPI. Cette méthode consiste tout d'abord à exposer des micro-organismes à un premier agent antimicrobien, par exemple la mitomycine C, de manière à induire l'expression d'au moins une protéine destinée à rendre résistante la mitomycine C, c'est-à-dire à l'inactiver. Dans le même temps, ou peu après, lesdits micro-organismes sont exposés à un second agent antimicrobien, par exemple ABPI et/ou imino-ABPI, cet agent étant activé par la protéine ayant inactivé le premier agent antimicrobien.
