ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is provided a synergistic herbicidal composition containing methyl 5-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-2-nitrobenzoate (bifenox) and ethyl 2-{4-[(6- chloro-2-benzoxazolyl)-oxy]-phenoxy]-propionate (phenoxaprop-ethyl) in combination. The above composition contains the above active ingredients preferably in a ratio of 20:1 to 0,5:1, if desired, along with an antidote and agriculturally acceptable carriers. The compositions control seed sprouting annual and perennial weeds in certain crops, especially sunflower, postemergently, without inhibiting the development of the desired plants.
