ABSTRACT The invention relates to synergistic herbicidally active compositions. The quantity required for a given herbicidal effect is substantially lower than that required for the herbicide itself. The compositions of the invention comprise in combination a herbicide which brings about active oxygen species formation in plants and a substance which binds copper or zinc, or a substance which reacts with a thiol moiety of a thiol containing enzyme. The herbicide and metal binding or thiol binding component can be applied together or separately.
