5,5'-diformyl-2,2'-difuran is prepared in excellent yield by photochemically irradiating furfural or a mixture of furfural and 5-bromo-2-furfural. In the latter case an acid scavenger is present. The solvent is acetonitrile. The process may be carried out continuously, the 5-bromo-2-furfural acting as a catalyst, the furfural being added, and the product being harvested continuously.

On prépare un 5,5'-diformyl-2,2'-difurane présentant d'excellents rendements par irradiation photochimique d'un furfura, ou par mélange d'un furfural et d'un 5-bromo-2-furfural. Dans ce cas, un capteur d'acide est présent. Le solvant est un acétonitrile. On peut exécuter ce procédé en continu, le 5-bromo-2-furfural agissant comme un catalyseur, le furfural étant ajouté, et le produit étant récupéré de manière continue.
