1,3-Oxaselenolane nucleosides of the formula: (see formula I) wherein B is a purine or pyrimidine base, and R is hydrogen, acyl, a mono-, di- or tri-phosphate ester, a stabilized phosphate or an ether lipid, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, are useful for the treatment of HIV infection, HBV infection or abnormal cellular proliferation in humans and other host animals.
