ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Described herein is a process for preparing 9-carbamoyl-9-(3-amino-propyl)fluorenes of the formula Image (I) wherein: R and R1 independently are hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, fluoro or chloro; and R2 and R3 independently are hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl; which comprises catalytically hydrogenating a compound of the formula Image wherein R and R1 are as defined hereinabove, and R4 and R5 independently are hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl, in the presence of an acid medium stronger than glacial acetic acid.
