The present invention relates to process of halogenating an alkynol having 3 to 20 carbon atoms to produce a compound having the formula: R-C(C-CH2)x-OH, wherein R is F, C1, Br or I and x is 1 to 18. In particular, this invention provides a process for preparing a halopropynyl alcohol, specifically iodopropynyl alcohol. In one embodiment, iodopropynyl alcohol is produced by sequentially adding potassium hydroxide, potassium iodide and an oxidizing agent to a solution of propynyl alcohol at a rate and temperature sufficient to produce an iodopropynyl alcohol.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'halogénation d'un alkynol possédant 3 à 20 atomes de carbone, permettant d'obtenir un composé dont la formule est: R-C?(C-CH¿2?)¿x?-OH, où R est F, C1, Br ou I et x a une valeur de 1 à 18. L'invention concerne plus particulièrement un procédé de production d'alcool halopropynyle, spécifiquement d'alcool iodopropynyle. Dans un mode de réalisation, on obtient de l'alcool iodopropynyle en ajoutant de façon séquentielle de l'hydroxyde de potassium, de l'iodure de potassium et un oxydant à une solution d'alcool propynyle, à une vitesse et à une température suffisantes pour produire un alcool iodopropynyle.
