173-P-US02371 SYNTHESIS OF LOWER ALKYL AMINES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to an improved process for synthesizing lower alkyl amines via the gas phase ammmonolysis of a lower alkanol. The improvement in the gas phase ammonolysis process resides in the use of a finely divided hydrogenation catalyst comprising a group 8 metal supported on a comparatively neutral alumina substrate, said neutrality to the support being imparted by the addition of an alkaline earth metal.
