This invention involves a process for manufacturing methyl mercaptan by catalytic hydrogenation of dimethyl disulfide in the presence of a sulfide-based catalyst consisting of at least one transition metal. This process takes place in the presence of water and/or hydrogen sulphide, which significantly enhances methyl mercaptan selectivity.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication du méthylmercaptan par hydrogénation catalytique du diméthyldisulfure sur un catalyseur à base de sulfure(s) d'au moins un métal de transition. Selon ce procédé on opère en présence d'eau et/ou d'hydrogène sulfuré, ce qui améliore considérablement la sélectivité en méthylmercaptan.
