Selon ce procédé, on réalise une réduction stéréo- spécifique des deux groupes hydroxyles d'un éther-diol par un mélange (trichlorure de titane, hydrure d'aluminium et de lithium) à une température comprise entre 5°C et 40°C environ et qu'éventuellement, on transforme l'éther obte- nu en vitamine A, rétinal ou acide rétinoïque. Application à la synthèse de composé tout-trans pris dans le groupe constitué par la vitamine A et ses éthers, le rétinal et l'acide de rétinoïque, et leurs isomères 13-cis.
