A system and method for providing the ability to selectively share data in a network routing device with an associated host. The system and method employs a hardware firewall in the routing device which restricts the host such that it can only access areas in shared memory which contains data destined for the host. The routing device CPU notifies the host of pending data and the location of that data in the shared memory. The hardware firewall is also notified of the location in shared memory which the host may access. When the host attempts to read the data, the firewall ensures that only the stated memory area or areas are accessed by the host. Once the data has been read by the host, the firewall is notified to cancel the host's ability to access the shared memory until such time as a new packet destined for the host arrives in the routing device.
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant de partager sélectivement des données dans un dispositif de routage réseau avec un hôte associé. Ce système et ce procédé utilisent un pare-feu matériel dans le dispositif de routage, ce pare-feu soumettant l'hôte à une restriction de façon qu'il ne puisse accéder qu'à certaines zones de la mémoire partagée contenant des données qui lui sont destinées. L'unité centrale du dispositif de routage fournit à l'hôte une notification des données pendantes et de l'emplacement de ces données dans la mémoire partagée. Le pare-feu matériel reçoit également une notification de l'emplacement de la mémoire partagée auquel l'hôte peut accéder. Lorsque l'hôte tente de lire les données, le pare-feu ne lui permet d'accéder qu'à la ou aux zones de mémoire autorisées. Après la lecture des données par l'hôte, le pare-feu est averti et supprime la possibilité pour l'hôte d'accéder à la mémoire partagée jusqu'à ce qu'un nouveau paquet destiné à cet hôte arrive dans le dispositif de routage.
