A system and method for establishing a phone call over a packet network. The process may receive a call request from an originating call device to a termination call device. A determination may be made to determine whether the terminating call device is available. If the terminating call device is determined to be available, transmission path status information between the originating and terminating call devices may be retrieved. Status of the transmission path on the packet network between the originating and terminating call devices may be determined. If the status of the transmission path is determined to be within a first range, a call may be established between the originating and terminating call devices via an encoder/decoder (CODEC) having a first data rate. Otherwise, the call may be established between the originating and terminating call devices via a CODEC having a second, lower data rate.
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé pour établir une communication téléphonique sur un réseau par paquets. Le procédé permet de recevoir une requête d'appel provenant d'un dispositif d'appel d'origine émis vers un dispositif d'appel de terminaison. Une détermination peut être effectuée afin de déterminer si le dispositif d'appel de terminaison est disponible ou non. S'il est déterminé que le dispositif d'appel de terminaison est disponible, les informations d'état de trajet de transmission entre les dispositifs d'appel d'origine et de terminaison peuvent être extraites. L'état du trajet de transmission sur le réseau par paquets entre les dispositifs d'appel d'origine et de terminaison peut être déterminé. S'il est déterminé que l'état du trajet de transmission se situe à l'intérieur d'une première plage, une communication peut être établie entre les dispositifs d'appel d'origine et de terminaison par l'intermédiaire d'un codeur/décodeur (CODEC) ayant un premier débit de données. Autrement, la communication peut être établie entre les dispositifs d'appel d'origine et de terminaison par l'intermédiaire d'un CODEC ayant un second débit de données inférieur.
