0 ABSTRACT An adaptive differential pulse code modulation transmission system is described. It includes a transmitter having a coding circuit which includes a subtractor for providing a difference between an input signal and a first predicted signal and a coder for coding the difference given from the subtrac- tor into a coded signal. A first decoder obtains a first reproduced error signal by decoding the coded signal given from the coder, and a first predic- tor generates the first predicted signal on the basis of the first reproduced error signal from the first decoder. A first control circuit controls the first predictor in response to the input signal and a difference between an internal signal used in the coding circuit and said input signal. The system also includes a receiver having a decoding circuit including a second decoder for receiving the coded signal supplied from the transmitter and decoding the received coded signal into a second reproduced error signal and a second predictor for producing a second predicted signal on the basis of the second reproduced error signal from the second decoder. A decoded signal is produced in response to the second reproduced error signal and the predicted signal; and a second control circuit controls the decoded signal in response to an internal signal used in said second decoding circuit.
