A manual annotation system of multi-modal characteristics in multimedia files. There is provided an arrangement for selection an observation modality of video with audio, video without audio, audio with video, or audio without video, to be used to annotate multimedia content. While annotating video or audio features is isolation results in less confidence in the identification of features, observing both audio and video simultaneously and annotating that observation results in a higher confidence level.

L'invention concerne un système d'annotation de caractéristiques multi-modales dans des fichiers multimédias. Un dispositif permet de sélectionner une modalité d'observation de vidéo avec audio, de vidéo sans audio, d'audio avec vidéo ou d'audio sans vidéo, à utiliser afin d'annoter le contenu multimédia. Le fait d'annoter des caractéristiques audio ou vidéo de manière isolée entraîne une identification moins confidentielle des caractéristiques, alors que le fait d'observer simultanément les caractéristiques audio et vidéo et d'annoter cette observation entraîne un niveau de confidentialité plus élevé.
