A system and method for collaborative handwriting input. An input hand-held computer (20) captures, stores and redisplays ink information from a user and transfers the ink information to a recognition computer (10) via a communication connection, which then recognizes it and outputs recognition result. A method is also employed in such a system for collaborative handwriting input. And in an embodiment, the system can comprise a recognition computer and a plurality of input hand-held computers.
