A recorder system contains a media key block (MKB) and selectively writes protected content into a recording medium according to the following content protection logic, to combat theft of the protected content: If the medium does not have a MKB, then the recorder writes its stored MKB into the medium and writes protected content into the medium. If the medium has a MKB that is older than the stored MKB in the recorder, then the recorder writes its stored MKB into the medium before re-encrypting and writing protected content into the medium. If the medium has a MKB that is newer than the stored MKB, then the MKB in the medium is used for content protection. The recorder may store the newer MKB in non-volatile memory, effectively updating its previous stored MKB, so the recorder will have the most recently observed MKB for content protection use.
L'invention concerne un système enregistreur qui contient un bloc clé de support (MKB) et écrit un contenu protégé sur un support d'enregistrement, selon la logique de protection de contenu suivante, pour lutter contre le vol de contenus protégés: si le support n'a pas un MKB, l'enregistreur écrit alors son MKB stocké sur le support et le contenu protégé sur ledit support. Si le support a un MKB plus ancien que le MKB stocké dans l'enregistreur, ce dernier écrit alors le MKB stocké sur le support avant de chiffrer de nouveau et d'écrire le contenu protégé sur le support. Si le support a un MKB plus récent que celui qui est stocké, le MKB sur le support est alors utilisé pour la protection du contenu. L'enregistreur peut stocker le MKB plus récent dans la mémoire rémanente, mettant à jour effectivement l'ancien MKB stocké, l'enregistreur disposera alors du MKB le plus récemment observé aux fins de la protection de contenu.
