A system for cutting a bowl from a wood block utilizing a lathe cores out an interior portion of the wood block by applying a cutting tool which is curved and rotatably mounted to a first post. The tool's lead end with a cutting tool piece attached creates a circular groove about the lathe rotational axis in the wood. The cutting tool is advanced on a path which curves toward the central axis of the lathe. A curved support member of the same curvature as the cutting tool is rotatable about a second support post and is positionable below the cutting tool. A support block is slidably engageable on a bed of the lathe and is positioned adjacent a face of the block. The first post is mounted on the support block and extends upwardly therefrom. The second post is releasably mounted on the lathe and is movable between two support portions.
