- 17 - SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING ESTRUS OR STANDING HEAT IN ANIMALS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE It is desirable to be be able to ascertain the ideal time to administer the semen in the artificial insemination of animals such as cattle, in order to maximize the success rate of such insemination and to endeavour to eliminate the missing of the estrus cycle altogether. This invention includes a pressure sensor detachably secured to the back of the female animal adjacent the base of the tail in which the pressure sensor is actuated by the weight of an animal mounting the female. The pressure sensor transmits a signal to a remote location indicating the initiating and duration of the mount. The receiver also records the time and date and a time delay may be provided in the sensor/ transmitter circuit to eliminate the recording of mounting times having a duration shorter than a preselected time period which are of no value to the determination of maximum of peak estrus.
