Systems and methods employing the invention disclosed herein obtain information in real time relating to a television signal present in a TV set non-invasively of the TV set, from which the source of the TV content displayed by the TV set can be identified. The information may be used for other purposes, which may or may notrequire real time reproduction, including to determine the channel to which the TV set was tuned and/ or to identify the input to the TV set which supplied the television signal. Content source may be determined from a code extracted from the reproduced television signal, or in other ways. Disclosed also are improved methods and apparatus for reproducing a television signal, for determining whether one television signal matches another television signal and for determining when a television receiver has completed a channel change. The invention has particular application for use in TV audience measurement systems.
Des systèmes et méthodes utilisant la présente invention obtiennent de l'information en temps réel relative à un signal de télévision présent dans un téléviseur, par des moyens extérieurs au téléviseur, cette information permettant d'identifier la source du contenu télévisuel présenté à l'écran du téléviseur. Cette information peut servir à d'autres fins, qui peuvent ou non nécessiter la reproduction en temps réel, par exemple à déterminer le canal syntonisé par le téléviseur et(ou) à identifier l'entrée du téléviseur d'où provient le signal de télévision. Il est possible de déterminer la source du contenu à partir d'un code extrait du signal de télévision reproduit, ou d'autres manières. En outre, l'invention présente des méthodes et un dispositif améliorés pour reproduire un signal de télévision, pour déterminer si un signal de télévision correspond ou non à un autre signal de télévision et pour déterminer le passage d'un canal à un autre sur un téléviseur. L'invention s'applique en particulier aux systèmes de mesure d'audience en télévision.
