An energy-conserving building covering material includes a building panel, such as a roofing panel or a siding panel, coated with a thermomorphic material that can change its energy reflectance. The thermomorphic coating material can be combined with a carrier material, or it can be encapsulated with a solvent and optionally a color former in a microcapsule suspended in the carrier material. Alternatively, the building panel can include an electrophoretic material sandwiched between two transparent panels acting as electrodes. The building panel, when covered with said coating material and carrier material combination, can reflect radiant energy during warmer temperatures and can absorb radiant energy during cooler temperatures and re- radiate said absorbed energy into an interior of a building.

L'invention concerne un matériau de revêtement s'utilisant dans la construction, qui favorise l'économie d'énergie. Ce matériau comprend un panneau de construction, p. ex. panneau de couverture ou parement, revêtu d'un matériau thermomorphique pouvant modifier son facteur de réflexion énergétique. Ce matériau de revêtement thermomorphique peut être combiné à un matériau support ou encapsulé, avec un solvant et éventuellement une matière chromogène, dans une microcapsule en suspension dans le matériau support. Dans une autre forme de réalisation, le panneau de construction peut comprendre une matière électrophorétique prise en sandwich entre deux panneaux transparents servant d'électrodes. Le panneau de construction, une fois recouvert du matériau de revêtement combiné au matériau support, permet de refléter l'énergie rayonnante quand il fait chaud et d'absorber l'énergie rayonnante quand il fait froid, et de redistribuer l'énergie absorbée à l'intérieur d'un bâtiment.
