An automatic sorting system for identifying and sorting non-homogenous material. The system includes a conveyor belt and an identification unit cooperable with the conveyor belt and placed above the conveying surface thereof for identifying material traveling therealong. The identification unit includes at least one projector for projecting a beam of light downwardly towards the conveying surface, at a given height above said conveying surface, and onto a given material to be identified, so that a portion of projected light may be reflected back from said given material and upwardly towards the identification unit. The identification unit also includes at least one lens positioned about the identification unit for receiving said portion of reflected light from the given material to be identified. The identification unit also includes a first processing unit operatively linked to the at least one lens for carrying a spectral analysis of the portion of reflected light captured by the at least one lens so as to determine the nature of the given material, and a second processing unit operatively linked to the first processing unit for comparing results of said spectral analysis with corresponding data associated to a variety of different materials stored in a given database of the second processing unit. The present system also includes a sorting unit operatively linked to the second processing unit and operatively cooperating with the second end of the conveyor so as to sort material released from said second end of the conveyor depending on signals received from the second processing unit.
La présente invention concerne un système de tri automatique pour identifier et trier un matériel non homogène. Le système comprend une courroie de transporteur et une unité d'identification pouvant coopérer avec la courroie de transporteur et placée au-dessus de sa surface de transport pour identifier du matériel se déplaçant tout le long. L'unité d'identification comprend au moins un projecteur pour projeter un faisceau de lumière vers le bas, vers la surface de transport, à une hauteur donnée au-dessus de la surface de transport et sur un matériel donné à identifier, de sorte qu'une partie de la lumière projetée puisse être réfléchie du matériel donné et vers le haut, vers l'unité d'identification. L'unité d'identification comprend également au moins une lentille placée près de l'unité d'identification pour recevoir la partie de la lumière réfléchie du matériel donné à identifier. L'unité d'identification comprend également une première unité de traitement liée de manière fonctionnelle à au moins une lentille pour réaliser une analyse spectrale de la partie de lumière réfléchie capturée par la ou les lentilles de manière à déterminer la nature du matériel donné, ainsi qu'une seconde unité de traitement liée de manière fonctionnelle à la première unité de traitement pour comparer les résultats de l'analyse spectrale avec les données correspondantes associées à divers matériels stockés dans une certaine base de données de la seconde unité de traitement. Le système comprend également une unité de tri liée de manière fonctionnelle à la seconde unité de traitement et coopérant de manière fonctionnelle avec la seconde extrémité du transporteur, de manière à trier le matériel libéré de la seconde extrémité du transporteur en fonction de signaux reçus de la seconde unité de traitement.
