A system and method that provides platform independent retrieval of software component data is provided. The discovered system and method manage conflicts, co-requisites, and pre-requisites associated with installing a software component by including such information in a software description which is retrieved in a platform-neutral manner. The system and method can be initiated by the target computer system or it can be driven by a application server that connects to the target computer system through a computer network. In a target initiated environment, the target computer system resolves conflict and co- /pre-requisite issues identified in the component description before installing the component software. In a server-initiated process, the server resolves the identified conflict and co-/pre-requisite issues on behalf of the target system and installs the software component on the target system.
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé servant à extraire des données de composant logiciel indépendamment de la plateforme utilisée. Ce système et ce procédé permettent de gérer des conflits, des produits corequis ainsi que des produits préalables qui sont associés à l'installation d'un composant logiciel, par intégration de certaines informations dans une description de composant dont l'extraction se fait indépendamment de la plateforme utilisée. Le système et le procédé selon l'invention peuvent être établis par un système informatique cible ou commandés par un serveur d'application qui se connecte au système informatique cible par l'intermédiaire d'un réseau informatique. Dans un environnement établi par un système informatique cible, le système informatique cible résout des problèmes de type conflits ou des problèmes relatifs à des produits corequis/préalables identifiés dans la description de composant logiciel, avant d'installer le composant logiciel. Dans un processus établi par un serveur, le serveur résout lesdits problèmes identifiés à la place du système cible et installe le composant logiciel sur le système cible.
