Systems and methods (fig. 1) are provided for communicating timely information related to the scalability layer structure of signals received by decoders (120 of fig. 1) and other components in a video and/or audio communication system. For a communication system (140 of fig. 1), which uses the Standard H.264 SVC coding format, standard SSEI messages are modified or supplemented to include the ability to signal scalability layer structure information and changes thereof. Recipients can use the signal scalability layer information to properly process or decode received signals.

L'invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés qui permettent de communiquer en temps opportun des informations se rapportant à une structure de couches d'évolutivité de signaux reçus par des décodeurs et autres éléments dans un système de communication audio et/ou vidéo. Pour un système de communication utilisant le format de codage de la norme H.264 SVC, les messages SSEI normaux sont modifiés ou complétés de façon à intégrer la capacité d'indiquer les informations relatives à la structure de couches d'évolutivité et ses modifications. Les destinataires peuvent utiliser ces informations de couches d'évolutivité des signaux pour traiter correctement ou décoder des signaux reçus.
