A system (200) and method managing a distributed computing system having a plurality of resources (208). The system (200) includes a pair of system management servers (116) that are communicatively connected to the plurality of resources (208). The system management servers (116) receive a requested view of the computing system from a user (202) representing the desired functionalities or attributes of the computing system. The servers (116) further monitor an implemented view of the computing system, representing the actual state or attributes of the computing system. The servers (116) compare the implemented view to the requested view and automatically and dynamically configure the plurality of system resources (208) such that the implemented view consistently satisfies the requested view.
