A system and method for improving the accuracy of a location measurement within a telecommunications system are disclosed. A combination of Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) and Timing Advance (TA) location measurement techniques enables Automatic Location Identification (ALI) with minor modifications to the telecommunications system, whereby the combination exhibits reduced measurement error and resolution of ambiguities present in either technique separately.

La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant d'améliorer l'exactitude de la mesure de position dans un système de télécommunications. En combinant les techniques de mesure de position par différence entre les temps d'arrivée et par avance de synchronisation, on obtient une identification de localisation automatique (ALI) n'impliquant que de légères modifications du système de télécommunications, avec une erreur de mesure et une résolution d'ambiguïtés réduites par rapport aux deux techniques utilisées séparément.
