A light pointing instrument is directed at a moveable barrier operator. The light pointing instrument transmits a narrow and directed beam of light to create a small, visible light region on a light receiver connected to the moveable barrier operator. The beam of light is received at the receiver of the operator. A moveable barrier is actuated in response to receiving the light from the light pointing instrument at the light receiver.
