A system and method for operating a mobile station in two modes, voice mode and page mode. A mobile station and a base station are provided. The mobile station is capable of operating in a first mode suitable for receiving telephone calls and in which the mobile station scans portions of a channel at a first rate. The mobile station is capable of operating in a second mode suitable for receiving pages only and in which the mobile station scans portions of the channel at a second rate. The first rate is higher than the second rate and the mobile station is capable of switching between the two modes at the option of the user thereof.
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant le fonctionnement d'une station mobile en mode vocal ou en mode radiomessagerie. Pour ce faire, on prévoit une station mobile et une station de base. La station mobile, fonctionnant en un premier mode indiqué pour recevoir des appels téléphoniques, balaie des parties d'un canal à une première vitesse. La station mobile, pouvant prendre en charge un second mode indiqué pour recevoir des radiomessages uniquement, balaie des parties du canal à une seconde vitesse. La première vitesse est supérieure à la seconde et la station mobile est en mesure de basculer entre les deux modes sur demande de l'utilisateur.
