SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION SCHEDULING ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and a system for scheduling production of a product through a plurality of logical machines, comprises identifying first machines to supply a load of product, identifying a second machine to receive a load of product from one of the first machines to perform a job step, and determin- ing which of the first machines should supply the load of product to the second machine to perform the job step using priority rules which are based upon the avoidance of bottle- necks during production, the priority of the product, and an analysis of future events. The method and system also include using a plurality of workers in a plurality of tasks relating to the machines. To assign the workers to the tasks an array is set up having a plurality of blocks, each block correspond- ing to the assignment of one of the workers to one of the tasks, a cost-weight representing the cost of assigning that task to that worker is entered in each block, one of the tasks is assigned to one of the workers where the block representing the assignment has the lowest cost-weight, the tasks already assigned are excluded from further consideration, and the assignment is repeated until all tasks are assigned that can be assigned.
