An audio/video apparatus (1) has an input port to receive a transport stream from a source of programs. The transport stream includes program data that is encoded and that represents at least one program to be presented to a user. A storage device (8) is coupled to the input port and is configured to record the transport stream. A decoder (10) is configured to be coupled to the storage device (8) to obtain the encoded program data of the transport stream from the storage device (8) and to decode the encoded program data. A control device (16) is coupled to the storage device (8) and the decoder (10), wherein the control device (16) controls a variable rate with which the decoder receives the program data from the storage device (8).
