A system and method are provided for use in maintaining secure communications between a home network (12) and a mobile client (24) when the client roams outside of the home network to a new location. One method of the present invention includes the steps of: establishing a new IP address for the new client (24) location; sending a registration message identifying the new IP address location; authenticating the registration message; encapsulating and transmitting the registration message to the home server; registering the new IP address as a care-of-address for the client at the home sever; confirming the registration of the new IP address with the client (24); establishing a security association between the home server (14) and the relay server (22) on behalf of the client; performing network address translation between the client's permanent IP address client and the client's new IP address; tunneling packets addressed for the client (24) between the home server (14) and the relay server (22) based on the established security association and the address translation for the client (24); and decapsulating the packets at the relay server (22) and forwarding the packets to the client (24).
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant de maintenir des communications sûres entre un réseau domestique et un client mobile lorsque le client se déplace à l'extérieur du réseau domestique vers un nouvel emplacement. Un procédé de la présente invention consiste à établir une nouvelle adresse IP pour le nouvel emplacement du client; à envoyer un message d'enregistrement identifiant l'emplacement de la nouvelle adresse IP; à authentifier le message d'enregistrement; à encapsuler et à transmettre le message d'enregistrement au serveur domestique; à enregistrer la nouvelle adresse IP en tant qu'adresse d'assistance pour le client dans le serveur domestique; à confirmer l'enregistrement de la nouvelle adresse IP auprès du client; à établir une association de sécurité entre le serveur domestique et le serveur relais au nom du client; à exécuter une traduction d'adresse de réseau entre l'adresse IP permanente du client et la nouvelle adresse IP du client; à transmettre via un tunnel les paquets adressés au client entre le serveur domestique et le serveur relais à partir de l'association de sécurité établie et de la traduction d'adresse pour le client; et à décapsuler les paquets au niveau du serveur relais et à transmettre les paquets au client.
