A method and system for streaming media objects. A streaming system include a group of end nodes and at least one core node connected via an overlay network. The end nodes cache segments of media objects and stream the media objects to a client segment by segment. Each end node stores segment indices for locating segments cached on end nodes or a core node in the system. The core node is a dedicated proxy which fetches media objects from a remote media server and streams the media objects to a client when the media objects are unavailable from the end nodes.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un système destinés à la diffusion continue d'objets multimédias. Un système multimédia en diffusion continue comprend un groupe de nAEuds terminaux et au moins un nAEud central connectés par un réseau superposé. Les nAEuds terminaux mettent en antémémoire des segments d'objets multimédias et diffusent en continu lesdits objets multimédias vers un client, segment par segment. Chaque nAEud terminal stocke des index de segments pour retrouver les segments mis en antémémoire sur des nAEuds terminaux ou un nAEud central du système. Le nAEud central est un proxy dédié qui extrait les objets multimédias à partir d'un serveur multimédia distant et diffuse en continu à un client les objets multimédias lorsque lesdits objets multimédias ne sont pas disponibles à partir des nAEuds terminaux.
