The present disclosure provides a system and method for triggering recipient- side events. In one embodiment, the triggering mechanism is used to create an interactive application session between a sender and a recipient through an application server. The trigger is created by way of hooking into the email client application and enabling the trigger prior to the transmission of an outbound email. The trigger is made to be encrypted and signed prior to its transmission. The trigger is then processed at reception by verifying its signature, decrypting it and firing the trigger -- acting upon its contents.
