A position-sensing system magnetically senses the position of a piston rod moving with respect to a cylinder. A magnetically hard layer on the piston rod provides a recording medium. Information is magnetically recorded in regions of the magnetically hard layer. These regions provide a relative encoding scheme for determining the position of the piston rod. Magnetic-field sensors are positioned over redundant tracks of magnetically recorded regions. Each magnetic-field sensor positioned over a given track senses the same magnetized regions while the piston rod moves with respect to the cylinder. Other magnetic-field sensors can sense ambient fields for use in performing common- mode rejection. A write head can dynamically repair damaged or erased regions detected by the magnetic-field sensors. Energized by a battery-backup power source, the magnetic-field sensors and associated circuitry can continue to track piston rod movement when the machinery is off.
Un système de détection de position détecte magnétiquement la position d'une tige de piston se déplaçant par rapport à un cylindre. Une couche magnétique dure sur la tige de piston forme un support d'enregistrement. Les informations sont enregistrées magnétiquement dans des zones de la couche magnétique dure. Ces zones constituent un mécanisme de codage pour déterminer la position de la tige de piston. Des capteurs de champ magnétique sont positionnés sur des pistes redondantes de zones enregistrées magnétiquement. Chaque capteur de champ magnétique positionné sur une piste donnée détecte les mêmes zones magnétisées alors que le piston se déplace par rapport au cylindre. D'autres capteurs de champ magnétique peuvent détecter des champs ambiants à utiliser dans la réalisation du rejet du mode commun. Une tête d'écriture peut réparer dynamiquement des zones endommagées ou effacées, détectées par les capteurs de champ magnétique. Etant donné qu'ils sont excités par une source d'alimentation de batterie de secours, les détecteurs de champ magnétique et les circuits associés peuvent continuer à suivre le mouvement de la tige de piston lorsque les machines sont à l'arrêt.
