Systems and methods for reducing engine emissions in a locomotive are presented. A fuel injector or a fuel injection pump of a fuel injection mechanism includes a plunger with an upper helix whose angle changes between points on the plunger that correspond to an idle throttle position and a full throttle position. As such, injection timing is optimized, and engine emissions are reduced.

L'invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés de réduction d'émissions du moteur dans une locomotive. Selon l'invention, l'injecteur de carburant ou la pompe d'injection de carburant d'un mécanisme d'injection de carburant comprend un piston plongeur présentant une hélice supérieure dont l'angle change entre des points situés sur le piston plongeur qui correspondent à une position gaz réduits et à une position pleins gaz. Ainsi, le calage de l'injection est optimisé et les émissions du moteur sont réduites.
