The present invention relates to a system and method to efficiently move data from a pipeline data bus (204) to another data bus 8208) in a network switch or router (200) . A switching module (201) in the network switch generates and places a packet cycle on the pipeline data bus . The switching module generates and places a control data cycle on an auxiliary data bus (212) . A bridging module (206) process the packet cycle on the pipeline data bus after processing the control data cycle on the auxiliary data bus .
