A system and methodology is described for automatically setting a clock, in which a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) mobile station (100) is in communication with a CDMA base station (112). The base station (112) is constantly transmitting the local time as part of a Sync Channel Message in the synchronization information overhead. The mobile station (100) is configured to extract the local time from the Sync Channel Message and provide the local time for updating the current value of the clock.
