The present invention relates to a system for automatic detection of smart cards, particularly of electronic tickets, and to the use of the system. The invention also relates to a ticket detection system for automatic detection of electronic tickets. The invention is concerned with the problem of further developing a system for automatic detection of smart cards to that extent that system can be installed in an easy manner while guaranteeing reliable operation. As a solution, the invention proposes a system for automatic detection of smart cards, particularly of electronic tickets, the system including a control computer and a detection device, the detection device including a communication interface for the communicating coupling with a smart card, a communication link being established between the control computer and the detection device, and the communication link being designed in a wireless fashion.
