This invention relates to a low-orbit satellite system for communication directed at terminals, in which the beams (12) of each cover (14) are lighted in accordance with a spatial sweep called "beam-hopping." For each satellite and for each terminal, emission and reception are separated in time and synchronized, with temporal duplexing being used. Application principally in the area of space telecommunications.
