The invention is an apparatus and method for on-line sorting of waste matter, at the entrance to a waste processing plant, according to the level of specific chemicals, typically chlorine detected therein. The apparatus comprises a waste matter inlet that provides waste matter to a weighing module, preferably until a preset limit is reached. Then, this control volume of waste is introduced into a pulsed neutron material analyzer that is optimized for the determination of the content of the specific chemical in the control volume. A control means such as a computer then decides whether the level of the chemical in the waste control volume is above or below a preset threshold, and accordingly channels the waste into one or another of two channels. One of these channels accepts waste with low content of the given chemical, for introduction into the waste processing chamber. The other channel stores the waste until, for example, it may be mixed with other waste having a sufficient low content such that the overall amount of the chemical is still below the threshold value.
La présente invention a trait à un appareil et un procédé permettant le tri en ligne de déchets, au niveau de l'entrée d'une installation de traitement de déchets, selon le niveau de produits chimiques spécifiques, typiquement du chlore qui y sont détectés. L'appareil comporte une entrée de déchets qui alimente des déchets à un module de pesage, de préférence jusqu'à une limite prédéterminée. Ensuite, ce volume de contrôle de déchets est introduit dans un analyseur de matières neutroniques pulsées qui est optimisé pour la détermination de la teneur de produits chimiques spécifiques dans le volume de contrôle. Un moyen de contrôle tel qu'un ordinateur détermine ensuite si le niveau de produits chimiques dans le volume de contrôle de déchets est supérieur ou inférieur à un seuil prédéterminé, et selon le résultat de la détermination oriente les déchets dans un ou l'autre de deux canaux. Un de ces canaux a reçoit des déchets avec un faible teneur du produit chimique donné, pour leur introduction dans la chambre de traitement de déchets. L'autre canal assure le stockage de déchets, par exemple, jusqu'à leur mélange avec d'autre déchets ayant une teneur inférieure de sorte que la quantité globale de produits chimiques est toujours inférieure à la valeur de seuil.
