A computer based system for monitoring and detecting microbial contamination in a production line comprises a first computer associated with an analyzer, such as a real-time PCR system, and a second remote computer for monitoring the results transmitted thereto by said first computer. The first computer is located at a laboratory proximate to the production line whereas the second computer is located at, for example, a management office at another location. The results of the analysis are displayed at the second computer simultaneously with the results being generated, whereby the integrity of the analysis is preserved and the data is easily validated. The invention provides a virtual method of on-site validation of analysis data and overcomes the need to transport samples to third party laboratories.
