ABSTRACT A system for producing an orthographic representation of a surface comprising; moving a camera along a path parallel to the surface while maintaining the lens axis of the camera perpendicular to the surface, creating a number of overlapping images of the surface or frames, converting the information to digital information, selecting from the frames strips passing through the centre of the frames and transverse to the camera movement and combining the information from the strips to produce a unitary representation of the surface.
