A shifter for use with a continuously variable transmission includes a grip portion and a hub portion. Specifically, the shifter is designed for use on a bicycle, but could also be used with any light vehicle. The grip portion is characterized by a rotatable adjuster that is coupled to a cable. The cable is also coupled to a hub portion. As the adjuster is rotated, the cable is pulled, in turn rotating a pulley assembly in the hub portion. As the pulley assembly is rotated, it advances a rod within a continuously variable transmission. The rod adjusts the power adjusters as described above. The grip portion is also unique in its display of information to the rider. The grip portion includes a display showing the ratio of input to output. The display also includes a filament that curves as the ration is adjusted. A high ratio renders the filament flat while the filament takes on a steep curve as the ratio is adjusted to make riding up hills easier.
L'invention concerne un sélecteur de vitesses à utiliser avec une transmission à variation continue qui comprend une partie poignée et une partie moyeu. Précisément, le sélecteur de vitesses est conçu pour être utilisé sur une bicyclette, mais pourrait aussi être utilisé avec n'importe quel véhicule léger. La partie poignée est caractérisée par un organe de réglage rotatif qui est accouplé à un câble. Le câble est également accouplé à la partie moyeu. Quand on tourne l'organe de réglage, on tire sur le câble, qui à son tour fait tourner un ensemble poulie dans la partie moyeu. La rotation de l'ensemble poulie fait avancer une tige à l'intérieur d'une transmission à variation continue. La tige règle les régleurs de puissance tels que décrits plus haut. La partie poignée est unique de par son affichage d'informations pour l'utilisateur. La partie poignée comprend un affichage montrant le rapport de démultiplication. L'affichage comprend aussi un filament qui se courbe quand on règle le rapport : un rapport élevé rend le filament plat tandis que le filament prend la forme d'une courbe raide quand on règle le rapport pour faciliter la montée des côtes.
