The present invention relates to a valve system that may be used to pressure test tubing, such as a tubing string deployed in a wellbore for the production of fluids. The tubing string is suspended within a wellbore and includes a valve system having a valve that enables flow of fluid into a hollow interior of the tubing string during downward movement of the tubing string into the well. However, the valve is moved to a closed position at selected locations within the wellbore to enable pressurization within the tubing during pressure testing. Once the pressure testing is completed and the tubing string is deployed within the wellbore, the valve can be retained in an open position to enable flow within the tubing string.
