-20- An improved compound transmission design is provided for reducing gear hopout, particularly during PTO operation. In this design, a spindle is rigidly secured to the input shaft, and a headset/fourth gear is rotatably mounted on a spindle by means of a full compliment needle bearing. A splitter gear is rotatably mounted on the input shaft and includes a sufficient diametral float with respect to the input shaft to minimize tipping of the gear while maintaining significant torque balance between countershafts. This configuration maintains concentricity in parallelism of the headset/fourth gear and splitter gear with respect to the synchronizer clutch in order to prevent gear hopout.

-20- Modèle amélioré de boîte de vitesses à relais mécanique permettant de réduire les changements intempestifs de vitesse, en particulier pendant que la prise de force est engagée. Dans ce modèle, un axe est fixé à l'arbre d'embrayage par une liaison rigide et un raccord de direction/quatrième rapport est monté sur un axe de manière à pouvoir y pivoter au moyen d'un roulement à aiguilles. Un pignon de demi-vitesse est en mesure de tourner autour de l'arbre d'embrayage sur lequel il est monté et présente un flottement diamétral suffisant par rapport à l'arbre d'embrayage pour minimiser les mouvements de basculement de la transmission tout en conservant un certain équilibre de couple entre les arbres intermédiaires. Cette configuration conserve le parallélisme concentrique du raccord de direction/quatrième rapport et du pignon de demi-vitesse par rapport à l'embrayage du synchroniseur de manière à prévenir les changements intempestifs de vitesse.
