An electric submergible pumping system having a submergible electric motor 14 with a unique rotor bearing system 66 to promote longevity of the motor 14. The system includes an electric motor 14 having a housing 40 and a stator 46 mounted within the housing 14. A shaft 58 is rotatably mounted within the housing 40 for rotation within an interior, axial passage through the stator 46. A rotor bearing assembly 66 is disposed intermediate the stator 46 and the shaft 58. The assembly 66 includes a bearing sleeve 74 mounted adjacent the shaft 58, and a main body portion 90 disposed in sliding engagement with the bearing sleeve 74. A spring mechanism 116, such as a wave spring, is engaged with the main body portion 90. A bracelet 118 is located between the spring mechanism 116 and an interior surface of the stator 46. The spring mechanism 116 biases the bracelet 118 against the stator 46 to prevent the body portion 90 from rotating during rotation of the shaft 56.
