An apparatus (12) and method for stretching a carpet includes the application of a downwardly directed actuation force on a foot-operated pedal actuator (52) to generate a horizontally directed carpet stretching force. An extension arrangement (16) includes either fixed length (20) and/or adjustable length (18) truss members used to anchor the crpet stretching apparatus (12).
