Abstract A system for syntax analysis of Japanese language according to the present invention is provided with: a local syntax analysis unit 3 which judges modifying-modified relation between words to form an analyzing tree for representing the modifying-modified relation between the words; and a global syntax analysis unit 4 which, when the Japanese sentence represented by the analyzing tree formed by the local syntax analysis unit 3 is a complex sentence, judges the justification of the modificand of predetermined particles in accordance with predetermined analyzing rules based on syntactic information and semantic information of the words and the structural feature of said Japanese sentence and which, as required, corrects said analyzing tree; whereby it is possible to automatically analyze modifying-modified structure of a Japanese complex sentence and the required time and labor is reduced in processing such as of breaking down of a complex sentence into simple sentences aided by human as in a conventional process.
