A bi-directional data communication system using inverse multiplexers for transmitting and receiving data at high-speeds using regular analog channels. The inverse multiplexer splits a high-speed digital signal into low-speed digital signals that are input to analog modems. The analog modems modulate the low-speed digital signals into low-speed analog signals for transmission over the analog channels to the public switched telephone network. At the remote end, the data carried by the analog channels is reverse inverse multiplexed into a high-speed digital signal by an inverse multiplexer operating in a reverse inverse multiplexing mode.

L'invention concerne un système de communication de données bidirectionnel utilisant des multiplexeurs inverses permettant d'émettre et de recevoir des données à grande vitesse par l'intermédiaire de voies analogiques classiques. Le multiplexeur inverse divise un signal numérique à grande vitesse en des signaux numériques basse vitesse qui sont introduits dans des modems analogiques. Les modems analogiques modulent les signaux numériques basse vitesse en signaux analogiques basse vitesse dans le but de les transmettre, par l'intermédiaire des voies analogiques, au réseau téléphonique public commuté. Au niveau de l'extrémité distante, les données acheminées par les voies analogiques subissent de nouveau un multiplexage inverse qui les transforme en un signal numérique grande vitesse. Cette opération est réalisée par un multiplexeur inverse fonctionnant à l'envers.
