Abstract A system for the self-preparation of filter cigarettes, the system comprising: a) a filter cigarette paper tube (11) or a cigarette paper sheet with a filter, b) a dimensionally stable tobacco portion (10) whose cross- section is adapted to the tobacco receiving space (17) of the cigarette paper tube (11) or the wrap formed by the cigarette paper sheet, the outer surface of said portion being air-permeable so that it cannot be smoked as such, wherein c) the tobacco portion (10) including its outer surface is made of completely smokable material so that the tobacco portion (10) as a whole may be consumed by smoking pro- vided its outer surface is in sufficiently close engage- ment with the inside of the filter cigarette paper tube (11) or wrap, respectively. An additional filter piece (13) is attached to one end of the tobacco portion (10) such that the tobacco portion (10) in- cluding the filter piece (13) has a length which corresponds to the length of the tobacco receiving space (17) of the filter cigarette paper tube (11) or wrap.
